A couple months ago I was ranting hard against those @martine_rose x @nike Monarchs. In the process of railing hard on them, they kinda grew on me. Only god knows why. They’re hideous. We all know it. But that’s kinda the point – they were MEANT to be hideous. So that lightens the blow a bit.⁣

A few weeks ago, I found a DS pink pair in my size for around $60 at the Nike Clearance Store in San Leandro. I tried them on, and decided to cop. You should have seen the look on the @nike employees face when I brought them to the counter. One of the other cashiers was looking at me as well. I broke a sweat and then blurted out ‘I’m going to paint them’. Both cashiers came over and we started talking about painting shoes and different paints and what sticks and what doesn’t. She says ‘what color are you going to paint them?’ I said ‘Well, I really want to paint them like the DQM (@123dortiz) 90’s.’ She nodded her head but I knew she had no idea what I was talking about. ⁣

I’ve painted plenty of shoes over the years…some came out great, some not so great, most somewhere in the middle. I’ve learned that I really don’t have the patience for it any more because there are . But I’m still really into this idea…looking at the texture(s), I don’t think I have the skill for it. ⁣

I reached out to a couple of customizers…@jwdanklefs and a couple of others…I asked if they would be interested in painting them and almost everyone said they wouldn’t do it because the paint wouldn’t stick. Bummer. ⁣

So now I’m stuck with a pair of pink tumor dad shoes with no options for customization on the horizon. If you know of someone who might be willing to give it a shot for a reasonable price – tag them in the comments!⁣
