(4/?) Is eBay back?⁣
The first item(s) I sold.

Back when I was in college, the Internet was just getting going. All kinds of crap was popping up and nobody had any idea what was going to work and what wasn’t. ⁣

There was this site – I don’t remember the name exactly, but I want to say it was like ‘Hoopdreams.com’ or something like that, that was aiming to be the go-to for all things basketball. Designwise – the site had a black background and an orange geometric logo. They were really trying to get things off on the right foot – so they launched their site with an absurd contest. The contest was basically…’every hour, we will post a short basketball quiz, if you answer all questions correctly, we’ll send you a free pair of shoes.’ ⁣

I set an alarm and jumped on my computer every hour on the hour for about a week. There were 3 questions and the questions were dumb easy…like ‘This 76ers player has the initials A.I.’ or ‘This center played at LSU and was drafted by the Orlando Magic.’ I remember I won like 4 or 5 contests before I figured – ‘there’s no way these people are going to send me some shoes.’ Sure enough, a week or two later, I got two pairs of shoes in the mail – some Nike Afterburners (I think) and some Adidas Superstars… neither pair really fit my style at the time, so I decided to give this eBay thing a shot. ⁣

I took some pics with a disposable camera, had to have the pictures developed a few weeks later, and received a disc with the images on it. From that disc, I posted my first ever auction – I want to say this was in like July of 2001. It took me MONTHS to actually post these. These are the actual pics from the actual auctions I posted. Yes, that is a pair of shoes on my bed with my actual comforter and pillows. Talk about aesthetics. I don’t remember what they sold for but I was happy with the outcome and kept selling.

What was the first thing YOU ever sold on eBay?⁣
