(1/?) Is eBay back?
After the response to that @solesupremacy x @eBay poll the other day (it wasn’t really an eBay poll, but rather my take on the fact that eBay was on the list), I started thinking about eBay and wondering where it can go from here….
I took a step back into @thewaybackmachine and snagged a screenshot of eBay back in 2000 – about a month after I initially became a member. It’s funny to look back on…how much things have changed.
You might not remember, but I do – eBay wasn’t the only ‘auction’ site in town – Yahoo had an auction site that was pretty popular as well. @yahoo auctions were easier to set up – I remember I was looking at some bootleg unreleased 2pac CDs and quickly learned that the dude selling them was like 3 doors down in my college dorm (what’s up, Adam!) When I first found the auction sites – I searched for 2 things – rap music and shoes. I remember the first item I bid on and lost, the first item I bid on and won, and the first item I sold…all within that first year or so.
I’ve already told y’all about the first item I bid on and lost and how new and devastating the feeling of losing out on an auction was and how the term ‘sniping’ had become part of the lexicon amongst sneakerheads. It was that pair of 1997 Black/Red Air Force 1 Jewels that @digglahhh hooked me up with a few months back. I remember I bid like $16 and some dude won them for $16.01 in the final few seconds. I went ahead and sent the dude a nasty message about how he was a scumbag and dude hit me back and actually apologized and offered me tips on winning the next one (I NEVER saw another pair on eBay in my size again)…
For all my ebayers – what was the first thing you bid on (not BIN) that you missed out on?
