I don’t know how many times I’ve seen ‘Coming to America’, but I’ve definitely seen it more than 15 times. I don’t own the movie, but for whatever reason – any time I’ve seen it online or on TV, I’ve decided to watch it. Most of the followers I have on Instagram tend to be on the younger-than-me side so if you haven’t seen it – I don’t know if you’ll find it all that funny. Older people tend to think that younger people should like the same things that they like, but in my experience – most of the things we are drawn to are generational. If you’re a fan of the Giannis ‘Coming to America’ shoes, I bet it’ll be really interesting for you to watch the movie to see where the inspiration comes from.⁣

I really don’t pay all that much attention to MOST new shoe releases. I found the Nike Freak 1 interesting insofar as Giannis making a splash in the NBA and it’s just an interesting design – I was initially drawn to all of the glue stains I saw on the first photos – cuz I was thinking that a pair without glue stains would be like grading gold – but haven’t really paid much attention beyond that. I saw the initial ‘Coming to America’ colorway – the one in this post – and wasn’t really moved. ⁣

I didn’t even know that Giannis had this whole ‘Coming to America’ pack thing going on until I visited my buddy at Niketown SF and I saw the ‘Soul Glo’s’ and thought…’man, that’s clever.’ Little did I know there were even more shoes coming out following that same storyline…⁣ ⁣
