After the positive response(s) to the last post, I decided to take it back even further…I was digging through some old pics and came across a couple of my favorites… From what I understand, I spent the first 2 years of my life in a shared home along the East Shore of Lake Tahoe, then spent the next 4 or 5 years with my parents and our German Shepherd in a one bedroom trailer in a trailer park in Truckee – which is where this first pic is from – the Donner Creek Mobile Home Park.
This was shortly after my then-15-year-old uncle came out to visit and introduced me to skateboarding. This is a pic of my dad and I…it’s my first skateboard and that’s a mini-ramp we (he) built when we first started skateboarding together, around 1986 or so…I was 6 or 7 at the time of this pic and you can see how awesome I truly was.
So. Much. Swag. If you zoom in, you can see I’m rockin my Glow In The Dark Zebra Chuck Taylors which was like the first pair of shoes I ever had a say in owning. If you swipe right, you can see a pair I got a bit earlier (but had no input in) – some 1982 Navy/White @nike Bruins that really didn’t stand the test of my awesomeness.
Living in the trailer park – it was cool because there were a lot of kids around, but it was kind of a bummer because there was always something shady going on. For my birthday one year – I got a pair of checkered Vans slip-ons. I was so excited to own them…I think the first time I wore them, I got them wet and had to leave them outside to dry. The next morning when I opened the front door – one of the shoes was gone. I was convinced a dog had taken it and canvassed the trailer park looking for dogs who might have stolen my brand new shoe. No luck. A couple nights later the other one was gone, too, and that was the end of my @vans era. Pretty sure it was just another trailer park lowlife stealing from a 6 year old kid.
This was also about the time when I started getting into @transworldskate and @thrashermag – I was perpetually on the lookout for a pair of the @tonyhawk Airwalks (not his sig model but a model I used to see him wear in pics) and always wanted some @visionstreetwear basics…
