So…the NYC block logo…would I even give a damn about it if I hadn’t spent some seriously formative years in New York? Probably not. I moved to NYC about a year after I graduated college, I got my first apartment in NYC, I got my first ‘real’ job in NYC. I bought my first ‘real’ car with my own money in NYC. I met the woman I’d marry in NYC. And I did all of it from the time I was 23 up until I was 30 years old, when I decided to leave NYC. ⁣

NYC was a huge part of my life. And it was a huge part of my experience as a sneaker guy. Would I be the sneaker guy I am today without NYC as the backdrop for the first steady paycheck(s) of my life? Absolutely not. I don’t give a damn what anyone says – sneakers ARE New York. ⁣

When I graduated college in 2002, I had no idea what I was going to do with myself. It was a painfully confusing time that I almost wish I could have just swept under the rug. Nothing was working out for me and I was looking everywhere for answers and couldn’t find anything. Nothing happened until I made something happen. I know there are kids who graduate every year with the same worries and fears I had – I am now a high school teacher after all – so…hopefully…hearing about my experience might help some of y’all figure out your own story. ⁣

I’m going to be posting a buttload of stories about my New York experience over the next few weeks. It’ll probably read more like a blog than anything, but it’ll be full of sneaker references and early 2000-2010 references. Hopefully you find some interest in the story that is the story…of…The Sneaker Savant.
